LimeWire is dead. The file sharing service has been shutdown by a US Federal judge after a four year legal battle.
The US Supreme Court’s 2005 Grokster decision made it clear that inducing copyright infringement could give rise to civil liability. What is amazing to me is that it took so long to shut LimeWire down. Did anyone really believe that LimeWire’s main purpose was not for sharing copyright material? R.I.P. LimeWire.
